I was planning to do some filming yesterday night but the Portuguese weather decided otherwise. In fact, for the first time in multiple months we had a decent amount of rain here, as well as a lot of wind.
Let me rephrase the above. This was - if I need to believe the news - the heaviest storm in Portugal since 1842. The fact that there are no casualties shows you that this country has little experience with storms overall and that we have been lucky.
Anyhow, all seems pretty okay here. Besides a small puddle of water in my kitchen - which appeared to come from a defrosted freezer ( after a power outage over night ) - and a little bit of a water in my living room that didn't do any damage, my place seems to be fine.
CUT BACK TO
Yesterday Night
I wanted to shoot an outdoor scene and felt a strong urge to head out, even though my common sense told me to stay in. The wind and rain seemed to intensify though - I could hear that much through the windows - so, in the end, I decided to spend the night indoor, in relaxing mode.
Better Save Than Sorry
No matter how much I would like to send some more footage to Ted, so he will be able to finish episode 2 and start editing in my footage for episode 3, it would just have been stupid to go outside last night. I could have been electrocuted by snapping power lines or something alike. And - besides that - filmmaking in the rain isn't an easy or fun thing either. I know that by experience.
Delaying the shoot a little longer also gives me some time to overcome the earlier mentioned continuity issues ( and grow my beard back )
Make the Best of the Situation
I decided to make the best of the situation and record some wind sounds that we / Ted might be able to use for the soundtrack. I also tried my hand on a short vlog like video where I talk about the stone. I don't think the latter will be used. In fact, I feel it doesn't come close to my earlier improv. I decided to share it with Ted anyway, mainly to see if it would give him any new ideas.
In the end, after a night of sleep, the video wasn't that bad but - as Ted informed me - the 640 by 480p that my replacement phone records in is really too big a contrast with the 4k footage that Ted and I record the rest of our videos in. Nevertheless, we agreed that I will record my so called 'vlogs', where my character talks to the camera, in 720p or HD. Which means I will end up shooting them with my GoPro Hero 5 Black after all. I just wished that camera actually recorded decent audio. I will still end up needing my iPhone to record the audio.
Technical Issues slowing down Creativity
And to get back to the iPhone... Today I tried to get the audio recordings that I took of yesterday's wind and rain off my ( mom's old ) iphone but I wasn't able to do, so due to a bunch of technical issues that I don't want to bore you with.
No matter what, all these so called 'issues' don't get me down these days. I Skyped with Ted for about an hour. He was happy to hear that I'm alright and still into filmmaking mode, eventhough I'm not able to do a lot of filming. He knows I'm doing whatever I can and is as patient and supporting as he's ever been.
