I went for a walk this morning. I hadn't been outdoor for a day and a half, due to the changing weather, so I really felt like it. I decided to take my phone with me, to shoot some possible vlogs.

For your information: my character is vlogging every now and then. He feels like recording stuff on video, considers himself some kind of ( amateur ) scientist.

My walk and the creative energy it released in me, lead to a filming frenzy. And, after returning home and checking out the result, I was pretty pleased with what I saw.

Nevertheless, the resolution of my footage seemed to be even lower than expected ( 640 x 480p ).

I then sent the footage - accompanied by some insights - to Ted. What follows are some of my thoughts:

I think we should just work with it ( it referring to 640x480p ), no matter how big the contrast with the 4k that the rest of the footage is shot on. It's a vlog and this is the phone my character owns. He's an old fashioned guy.

People will forgive us for the quality and just focus on the content instead.

I like that the iPhone doesn't distort me ( unlike the wide lens, the only option when filmin in 4k with a GoPro ) and my face is way closer to the camera, which I like.

When filming with this iPhone 4, instead of the GoPro, I won't need the iPhone as an extra audio device.

The improv vlogging helps me to get into character and I discovered for the umptieth time that outdoor improv, especially when moving around, really is my thing.

I added in my P.S. to Ted that I start to feel more and more that these vlogs could actually be separate episodes or possibly inbetween the weekly episodes

They will give hom some breathing time, too, as they require little editing.

A couple of hours later, I Skyped with Ted. Even though he really liked the footage, my acting in particular ( and monologues that I didn't share with you but might in the coming days ), he decided he's not gonna use it. One reason is the quality. It's really to big a contrast with the 4k footage that we use for most of our scenes. Another is the time of day. For now, we decided, my character's scenes will ( mainly ) take place at night. We want to make it more real time.

So what you can expect is Ted's character in dark tunnels and my character in the dark ( but not in the tunnels ).

Anyhow, the improv filming gave me a big energy boost, as did talking to Ted. I'm already looking forward to shooting even more footage. I know I told this before, but it really seems like we can finish the first four episodes pretty soon ( later this month ). And, in case you didn't know or forgot, that means we will start releasing the first episode soon afterwards...
