Yesterday afternoon, I was walking in the Portuguese mountains, when my eyes fell on this deserted hotel. It stood out from the misty landscape, even in its greyness. The place attracted and scared me all at the same time. Kind of like a duckling would behave when people throw bread in a park's pond.

Let me rephrase that. The place merely intrigued me. Part of me felt an extreme urge to walk up to it, ascend its stairs and take a closer look. All windows were barred or cemented, except for one tiny room, next to the balcony above the stairs. That room really drew my attention.

Then something happened.

I heard music coming from the building. It appeared to come out of a room behind the open window. My brain linked it to the graffiti on the wall and thought of a squatter. I then shaked off that thought. Who would want to squat a building like that, located at the top of the Serra da Estrela, the highest point of the Portuguese mainland ( 1993 meters above sea level)? A place where it's almost always windy, misty and just overall desolated.

I decided to take a video of it, to record the music. Immediately afterwards, my battery started to empty itself rapidly and then my phone shut down ( probably due to the cold ). When I played back the video later, I didn't hear any music.

Was there really music playing? Was is perhaps the wind going through the building? Did the music just take place in my head? It sounded so real.

This place - and a handful of other buildings on this terrain - would make for an awesome movie location though. In fact, just now, I mentioned this to my filmmaking friend Ted. The guy with whom I recently started collaborating again. It definitely piqued his interest and I understand why.

If you wanna know and see more, make sure to keep an eye on my Steemit blog, where I will be sharing more pictures of this place ( very soon ) and probably more of this location in the near future ( filmmaking wise ).

For now this teasing, found footage-like vertical video will need to do. And don't you think the title to this post would be perfect for an Italian Giallo movie. Who knows, I might make the first Portuguese Giallo one day ;>)
